Baseball & Softball State Playoffs Final Wrap-up

MIAMI

Baseball – The No. 6-seeded Vandals reached the semifinals of the Division V State Championship before suffering a 3 – 1 to No. 2 Pima, which will play for the state title on May 14. Miami, which had a first-round bye, defeated No. 11 St. Augustine and upset No. 3 Ash Fork to reach the final four of the playoffs. Senior Logan Perry went 2-for-3, including a double, and drove in three runs in the Vandals’ 11 – 1 victory against St. Augustine on Apr. 30 at the Maryvale Baseball Complex. Trevor Horta hit a two-run double and Joseph Radke tripled in the win. Junior Mando Garcia pitched a one-hit complete game to earn the win. He allowed one run with two walks and seven strikeouts against the Wolves.

Softball – The No. 23-seeded Lady Vandals upset higher-seeded teams in the first two rounds of the Division V State Championship to reach the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by eventual State Runner-up Santa Cruz. Senior Keisha Bowser had four hits, including two doubles, and four RBI in a first-round 10 – 7 victory against No. 10 Mohave Accelerated on Apr. 29 at the Rose Mofford Softball Complex. Abbie Sandoval added three hits and two RBI. Sydney Reveles, a freshman, had three hits in addition to two hits apiece from Jaydan Allinson, Maribel Barreto and Aimee Hockaday. Allinson, a sophomore, tossed a complete game, allowing 7 runs – five earned – on nine hits with six walks and five strikeouts. The Lady Vandals scored five eighth-inning runs before No. 7 Seligman scored four runs in their half of the eighth to hang on for an 8 – 7 second-round win on Apr. 30. Bowser had her second-straight four-hit game in the win and drove in two runs. Her homerun was one of four extra-base hits in the game for the Lady Vandals. Isabell Padilla, Autumn Sanchez and Jaydan Allison hit the others.

SAN CARLOS

Softball – Player of the Game Adrianna Haozous had four hits and an RBI in the No. 9-seed Lady Braves’ 8 – 7 win over No. 24 Academy of Tucson on Apr. 29 at the Rose Mofford Softball Complex. LaTasha Harvey had two hits at the plate in addition to pitching a complete game in the circle. The senior allowed two earned runs on 11 hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. No. 8-Pima dealt the Lady Braves a one-run loss in the second round, 8 – 7. Harvey was named Player of the Game after finishing with two hits and six innings pitched. She allowed one earned run with three strikeouts against the Roughriders. Christine Talgo, Chasity Dosela and Ariel Kindelay each had two hits apiece in the season-ending game.
