A nightmare for one woman finally came to an end in Superior when police arrested a Hayden man accused of kidnapping, robbery and aggravated assault.
According to Superior Police Chief Mark Nipp, on April 4 at about 1:30 p.m., the Superior Police Department received a report of a woman being held in a vehicle against her will. The caller, Nipp said, provided dispatchers with a description of the vehicle, information which was quickly relayed to officers in the field.
Detective Lawrence located a vehicle matching the description and attempted to make contact with the driver. The driver fled from Lawrence and tried to evade.
Lawrence pursued the vehicle, winding through the residential streets of Superior before the vehicle fled eastbound on Hwy. 60. The driver, later identified as Jonathan Rabago, 24, Hayden, eventually stopped at milepost 228 on Hwy. 60. After an additional Superior Police unit arrived, Rabago was taken into custody without incident. The victim was located inside the car and was later safely returned to her home.
Nipp said that further investigation revealed that the female victim had been trying to get away from Rabago and had been beaten and robbed during the ordeal, which took place over a 24-hour period. The victim was able to make a call to a family member who then called police. The incident, Nipp reported, took place at several locations within Pinal County near Hayden and in Superior.
Rabago was arrested and charged with kidnapping, armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful flight from law enforcement. Rabago was transported and booked into the Pinal County Jail in Florence. He is currently being held on a $20,000 bond and a preliminary hearing on his case was held yesterday.
