The Superior Little League was notified that it is the recipient of a financial grant from the Arizona Diamondbacks. The grant from the Major League Baseball team will provide the jerseys and hats for every player in the league. The savings to the league will be about $4,000, explained League Treasurer Vanessa Navarrette.
“Every team will be named after the Diamondbacks but there will be different color combinations to identify each team,” she explained. Each team will also be invited to walk on the field at a Diamondbacks game this season, according to grant documents.
Registration for the 2015 season will be held on Mondays and Fridays during the month of January at the Superior Junior Senior High School Multipurpose Room. The registrations will begin at 6 p.m. and will end at 7:30 p.m. T-Ball registrations will close early due to an early T-ball season start time. Final dates have not been set at press time. Parents are advised to register their children early. Registration for T-Ball will end on March 6 and the registration for all other divisions will end on March 30.
Registration cost is $45 for the first player in a household, $35 for the second player in a household and $10 per additional player in each household. The fee includes a full uniform: pants, jersey, socks, belt and Little League patches. The fee also covers some of the administrative costs the league has to pay including the Little League charter.
The savings in the jersey costs will provide some breathing room in the Leagues budget to cover the costs of recent vandalism at the field. The vandalism included damage to the concession stand door, breaking of field lights and score board lights and the stands that hold up the water jugs in the dug out have been damaged. Total cost to make the necessary repairs are approximated at $1,100. The league will be installing no trespassing signs at the field and encourages anyone who sees suspicious activity at the field to call Superior Police Department. The Superior Police Department is currently investigating the vandalism and reports have been filed.
