Sea Lions Swim Team open season with a win

The San Manuel Sea Lions hosted the first swim meet of the 2014 season on Saturday at the San Manuel Swimming Pool against the Parkside (Florence Anthem) Piranhas and San Tan Valley Barrcudas. The Sea Lions won the meet with 987 points, while the Piranhas finished with 347 points and the Barracudas finished with 74 points. In the Central Arizona Swimming League, the Sea Lions have won every swim meet over the past seven years and hope to make a run at eight consecutive league championships this summer.

The coaches were proud of how the team performed at the first meet.

A total of 13 team records were broken on Saturday. Swimmers breaking team records included the following: Evan Apuron (10), Riley Stewart (10), Darien Apuron (12), Gianna Sweeney (12) and Will Newman (14).

Will Newman was the only swimmer at the meet to swim the maximum number of events and win all of them.

This was the first swim meet for many swimmers on the team and they performed extremely well and had lots of fun! Listed below are swimmers who competed in their first swim meet as a Sea Lion on Saturday: Kayla Lambiotte (5), Juliana Ramirez (7), Drew Lavato (7), Eli Tilley (9), Justyn DeHerrera (9), Angelina Tilley (11), CJ Medlock (12), and Antonio Darame (14).

Genevieve Estrada was named Sea Lions Beast of the Week. Her hard work in practice paid off at the meet. She entered every event and achieved best times in five events. She has shown that she is among the best swimmers in the 9-10 Girls Age Group.

The Sea Lions will host the Globe Piranhas at the San Manuel Pool on Saturday, June 7 at 9 a.m.
