San Manuel Miner
Jim Petty, director of the Pinal County Airport Economic Development Department has shared an update on San Manuel Airport news. The most recent news that will impact San Manuel Airport includes:
#1 – The county is getting ready to bid out the ramp reconstruction. The bids are due March 24 and around April 5 a bidder will have been vetted and a contract will then go to the board. Upon approval construction should begin by early May. This will be a multi-phase project where an area will be completed so people can move their planes to the finished area while the area where they were once at can be re-done. Construction is expected to be completed in about two months. This is a full construction and not just an overlay. Shade ports will be an additional item that is up for bid, and depending on the cost will be completed as well.
#2 – In regard to fire protection, there is a five year memorandum of understanding with the San Manuel Fire Department that expires June 22, 2016. There is a district that may be formed that includes the San Manuel Airport. This presents some big issues, including response time to a fire or accident. “The county is really working on this issue but there are many layers to it,” said Jim. Director Petty will keep everyone informed and if anyone has any questions they can contact Jim Petty at 520-866-6545 or Jim.Petty@pinalcountyaz.gov.
#3 – The Flood Control section of Public Works installed a water gauge on the entrance road to the airport on Feb. 24. It is part of a network of gauges that monitor flow rates across the county.
