Maxine L. Dalton

Maxine L Dalton passed into God’s arms peacefully on Feb. 24, 2017 at the age of 87.  In her last days she was surrounded by her family, whom she loved dearly.

She was born on May 22, 1929 in Oplin, Texas. The family moved and she grew up, as the third child of a family of nine, on a small ranch outside of Pie Town, New Mexico.  She went to school in a one room schoolhouse through 8th grade, which was a 3 mile walk from the ranch.  To continue her education, she attended High School away from home in Reserve, NM. where she and her older sister boarded with a family. It was during this time away at school when she became God’s faithful servant.  She was 13 years old when she read the bible for the first time cover to cover. From that point on, she anchored her life with an unwavering faith and trust in Jesus Christ.  She continued to live out the gospel daily to the end.  Following high school, she attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City, NM with a major in Education.

During her life she lived in New Mexico, Ilo, Peru, and several different times in Arizona. One of her favorite times in her life was when her family was all together for the last time at the Top of the World, Arizona. The family moved to Top of the World in 1969 and then she eventually settled in Superior, AZ in 1980.

She began her teaching career in Silver City, NM. following college in 1951, she taught in Peru, and again in Arizona at Superior Elementary School in 1969, until she retired in 1989.

She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Lehew, a brother, Harold Lehew, and her son, John H. Dalton Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Rabago (Frank), Lillian Flanagan (Mike), her son, Rodney Dalton, four sisters, Estelle Miller, Alta Faye Moore, Marie Hatten, Barbara Jo Foard and one brother, Donald Lehew. She had 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.  She loved her family and enjoyed all holidays and family get togethers.

She was a devoted Christian and member of the Superior Presbyterian Church for 45 years. She especially enjoyed her time in her yard, growing flowers, fruit trees and vegetables along with raising ducks and chickens with her grandkids. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 4, at the Superior Presbyterian Church. 100 N Magma Ave. Superior, Az 85173.  Donations may be made to her church, which was a large part of life.
