Tatyana Carlson, granddaughter to Nacho and Dora Villaverde of Superior, has completed her seventh grade junior high with several awards in academics and sports at her school, Winnemucca Junior High in Winnemucca, Nevada. Tatyana received a certificate for Honor Roll in the first semester and High Honors in the second semester with a GPA of 3.99. In school she plays clarinet in the school band. She also received the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. She was selected too attend the Rotary International Leadership Seminar this summer. During the school year she participated in basketball. The basketball team was undefeated 15-0 in the league and the State Champions. She played volleyball and the team was undefeated 13-0 in league and State Champions. Tatyana received the All-Tournament B-team award and the outstanding seventh grade player for her team award. Her last sport for the school was in track and field where she ran 100m, 110m hurdles, anchor in the 400m relay, anchor in the 800m relay, and long jump, receiving 11 medals. Her greatest achievement in track was when she ran 13.5 in the hundred and 14’9” in the long jump. Tatyana said her goal it to beat the Tia Debbie time in the hurdles for next year.
In between school sports she participates in the town activities. Starting with the golf league where her handicap is a 45 for 9 holes, bowling with an average of 228, travel and league basketball, travel and league softball. She is a pitcher, catcher and plays shortstop.
She is also involved in the community with an all-girls club called Life is Good. This club works with the family and youth organization volunteering with the Senior Citizens, community garden, Safe Haven Zoo, library programs, food banks, community shelters. Just recently the Life is Good Club was given a banquet dinner for dedicating their time and recognizing their efforts to their town. They received certificates from the State Senator of Nevada, Governor of Nevada, Mayor of Winnemucca, Rotary Club, Lion’s Club and the Humboldt County, letting them know that they are of value to the community and are role models for girls.
Tatyana is the daughter of Anna Villaverde Carlson. Tatyana has a sister Susan in Massachusetts and a brother Jojo in Superior and several aunts and uncles and cousins who she loves with all her heart
