Mrs Helen Olson’s Class at Roosevelt School

The majority of us are six to seven years of age when we begin grade school. Those from the Class of 1962 are now around 73 or 74 years of age, and, have 67 years of shared memories and friendships.
On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Superior High School Class of 1962 celebrated their 55th Class Reunion. Meeting at the Arizona Golf Resort Garden Pavilion in Mesa, at Power Road and Broadway, a total of 20 classmates attended with spouses, guests or single.
Sylvia Perez, of the class of 1962, stated, “We have always included those not only that graduated, but, attended school with us during our twelve years of school. Some moved away and graduated from other schools, or, just left school. Regardless, we have always included them, and, yes, we are a class; but, consider ourselves just one large family and always trying to stay in touch.”
Perez went on to say, “We have always been lucky to have our class sponsors attend, which were William (Coach) Gonzales, and the late Raymond Argetl. Coach Gonzales and wife Virgie attended, and it is always great to reminisce with them. Unfortunately, we lost Mr. Argel earlier this year.”
Heading this reunion were Roy and Sue Bobbit, Sylvia (Padilla) Perez and Elena (Acosta) Sandoval with help from Olivia (Martinez) Acosta and Rosa (Rodriguez) Morales. Marion and Judith Pomeroy traveled from Texas, Jeannie (Almejo)Yates traveled from New Mexico; and, from California, Martha (Lucero) and Phil Berthel, Raymond Gallegos, Gus and Brenda Romero, David and Pamela Wing and Rosemary Romero came with brother Gus.
Attending within Arizona were Jerry and Glenda Chilton, Camerino and Judith Lopez, Mary Ellen (Gomez) and Chris Magana, Manuel and Mary Lou Torres, Olivia (Martinez) and George Acosta, Roy and Sue Bobbitt, Terry (Gallegos) Salas who came with brother Raymond, Jack Herron who brought brother Danny Herron, Rosa (Rodriguez) Morales, Mary (Mora) Moreno, Elena (Acosta) and Ernie Sandoval, and Sylvia (Padilla) Perez. Also, Reavis and Sherry Franklin joined in and Pete Gutierrez stopped by just to say hello, but, couldn’t stay.
Sylvia Perez said, “This class has lost 26 classmates and during this search for classmates, we found Lynne Saarup, just to find out that she, too, had passed. However, we had the opportunity to meet her husband Ron Bieschke, who joined us and met her classmates. Some classmates or spouses who were unable to attend due to ill health were sent get well cards signed by those classmates in attendance, to let them know they were missed. This class has also always invited those spouses of deceased classmates.”
Perez continued, “Enjoyed by everyone, classmates suggested meeting every year, somehow, since we are getting up in years. We can still kick, just not too high. Forever Panthers!”
