Missing from our hectic and processed lives is real butter, real sugar and good old fashioned cooking and baking techniques.  We rarely take a moment to realize that food just doesn’t taste quite like we might have remembered.  The soft yet crunchy texture of a peanut butter cookie, homemade fudge, pies and brownies.  Are you hungry yet?

This being the season for memories and food, it’s a great time to feature the business of Superior Sweets.

Nancy Vogler opened her home baking business, Superior Sweets, not long after the state of Arizona approved a law that would allow bakers to prepare and sell their baked goods which were prepared in their residence.  The law does not allow for items like cheesecakes, custards or meringue items to be prepared at home; those require a certified commercial kitchen as a preparation area.

For Nancy, she always enjoyed baking. Since she was seven years old she enjoyed mixing up butter and sugars and savoring that mixture even before adding the rest of the ingredients.  At first she thought this would be just a hobby business, occasionally baking and selling goods. However, her baked goods have quite the following and she has been busy ever since.  Nancy has even developed recipes and named them after mining and ranching terms like the Mother Lode Cookies, Cowboy Cookies and she has also perfected her sugar cookie recipe which allows her to bake custom shape and decorate them for special events.

To order some of Nancy’s confections you can find her on Facebook: www.facebook.com/superiorsweets or you can call her directly at  520-827-9461.  She also sells her sweet treats at the Second Friday events in Downtown Superior.

Nancy’s advice to her fellow entrepreneurs and future business owners: “Do what you love,” she said.  “What ever type of business you are running or thinking of starting, make sure you love what you will be doing.”
