  Representative Ann Kirkpatrick annually awards high school students in her district with Congressional Community Service Awards.  This year the award recipients were invited to a banquet with the Congresswoman in Flagstaff.  Phalicitee “Pinky” Thomas was awarded the Congressional Community Service award for 2016 at Superior High school. 

  She was nominated by the Superior Junior-Senior High School Guidance Councelor Angela Brammer.  Thomas was an involved leader as an athlete and a student during her career at Superior High school.  She volunteered throughout the community with clean ups and community events as well.

  Accompanying her to the banquet were her mother Evelyn Thomas, teacher Terry Villaverde and friend Gabby Salcido.

  Arizona born and raised, Ann Kirkpatrick resides in Flagstaff, and her earliest roots are found in Eastern Arizona in McNary on the White Mountain Apache Nation. Her father ran a general store and her mother was a schoolteacher. Ann graduated from Blue Ridge High School in the White Mountains. a In her second term, Ann served on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She passed several bipartisan bills during the 113th Congress, including major legislation that will bring thousands of mining jobs to Superior, Ariz., and she played a key role in the push to reform the broken VA system. In November 2014, the voters of Arizona’s Congressional District One elected her to a third term.

Mila Besich is a resident of Superior with two children. She volunteers for many local organizations. She is an experienced fundraiser and event planner for Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition. She covers some of the area town councils and schools.
