Community members from throughout the Copper Corridor region attended an update meeting about the Resolution Copper project last week. The update covered many issues pertaining to the project including safety, leadership changes and El Niño weather conditions.
The company reported that once again they have earned a Sentinel of Safety Award by the National Mining Association. Resolution Copper worked more than 80,000 hours without a lost time injury or illness. The Core Processing facility and Water Treatment continue to operate without any major incidents or injuries.
The company announced that it will be hiring several local employees for Environmental Technicians in the Environmental permitting and compliance departments and another Native American Affairs liaison.
Another topic of discussion was the safety precautions the mine has put into affect to prevent from any environmental issues caused by El Niño. The company has increased their storm water management capacity to manage heavier rains, installed two million dollars in pumps and pipes to divert water to storage areas.
Resolution Copper management also unveiled a new score card to demonstrate the sustainable value within the local community. The score card will be advertised publicly and will show how many local employees are working, community giving, safety and environmental concerns. The scorecard is available at the Resolution Copper Main Street office.
The company has five main areas of focus for the 2016 including safety, permitting the project and engineering the study, continued reclamation, Construction phase and engineering work on shaft nine and to continue strong engagement with the local communities.
