The Superior Unified School District accepted checks from the Eddie Longoria and Joe Castaneda softball tournament and Be Like Billy fund at the March school board meeting.
The Eddie and Joe Castaneda softball tournament raised funds to provide financial support to the athletic programs in Superior and Kearny. Jessica Castillo, Angela Villaverde, Pati Castaneda and Sylvia Longoria presented three $500 checks to Mr. Duarte the principal at Superior Junior/Senior High school. The checks will go towards the elementary athletic programs, junior high and high school athletic programs.
Members of the Preciado family made a check presentation in the amount of $6,538 for new scoreboards at the school softball and baseball fields. The funds were raised in the memory of Billy Preciado who was an avid Panther fan, softball coach and community leader. They announced that another $1,400 would be donated along with additional financial support from Martin Navarrette, Capstone Mining and Freeport McMoRan. Resolution Copper will be assisting with installation of the boards.
