Mining Rocks to be held at Miami’s Bullion Oct. 3

The simulators were a favorite for all ages when Freeport held a community appreciation day a few years ago and they will be back in town at the Mining Rocks Festival on Oct. 3 at Bullion Plaza. This will be a great chance to see if you have the “right stuff” to be a heavy equipment operator.

The green in front of Bullion Plaza will be alive with interactive booths, arts and crafts vendors, a kids area, food booths and more on Oct. 3 for Mining Rocks. Displays by local mining companies will be on hand and the mobile visitor center from the Copper Corridor will be open for business. The event opens at 10 am and will continue until 6 pm.

Ever wonder what it’s like to run a piece of heavy machinery? Do you have it in you to climb 35 feet up a rock wall? Maybe you’re thinking your kids could use a little exercise on an obstacle course. If any of these are on your bucket list, the Mining Rocks festival on Oct. 3 in Miami is the place to be.

Vendors featuring everything from jewelry to copper art work and more will be out on the green If you’ve always thought there’s nothing to driving a piece of machinery bigger than a bus, this is your chance to see if you’re right with a simulator brought on site by Freeport-McMoRan.

The climbing wall and obstacle course will be open from noon to 4 p.m. and will be free for visitors. Live music by Low Expectations is offered from 2-6 p.m. and food vendors will be on hand all day, with seating for guests.

Head inside to see the art contest entries and see if you can guess how much a spool of copper wire weighs, or just how many pennies are in that jar. It’s all part of the fun at Mining Rocks.

Enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs, snow cones and kettle corn just for starters. It’s a great way to kick off fall with the Mining Rocks event at Bullion. A portion of the monies raised will go to the Bullion Plaza Museum. Sponsors for the event include Platinum sponsors Freeport-McMoran, Resolution Copper, Capstone, Supervisor Mike Pastor, Gold Sponsor Desert Fox Minerals, and Silver Sponsors Dream Pole Construction, KGHM-Carlota Copper Company, Southwest Gas, Supervisor John Marcanti.

Anyone interested in vendor space is invited to contact the chamber at (928) 425-4495.
