The first and second grade students of the Mammoth STEM School had been discussing the tragedy of Sept. 11 and wanted to do something to show appreciation toward our local heroes that are not always thought of or honored. The students invited Mammoth Police Department, Mammoth Fire Department, the Lions Club and the Food Bank. The Lions Club was unable to attend.

The students read the poem,The Flagby Samuel Southworth, to the heroes and then asked some questions.

The students had an enjoyable time asking questions and the representatives from the police department and fire department responding about how difficult and dangerous their jobs are and what to do in case of a fire or other emergency. Joyce McClung from the Food Bank explained to the youth how the Food Bank helps out as well.

The students presented the police and fire department and the Food Bank with a certificate for being the local heroes. The youth showed gratitude and appreciation. All the organizations and individuals who help others thank you for all you do!
