Hayden High School Class of 1965 celebrates 50th class reunion

Hayden High School Class of 1965.

Hayden, Arizona– The Hayden High School Class of 1965 celebrated its 50th Class Reunion with the Classes of the 60s on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the General Kearny Inn Pavilion.

The Kearny Rotary Club provided the steak dinner and the dance music was provided by D.J. Lucky Romero.

Special awards were presented to Linda Rico for First to Register and to Gracie Calderon and Terri Corrales for the Last to Register. The Hardest Person to Find was Phil Curtis, while Ann Cavannah of Durango, Co., Rodney Sedam of Mojave, CA, Diane Thomas and Dorothy Montoya from New Mexico received the Farthest Traveled to Reunion from Out of State awards.

Living the Closest to the School award went to Annie Hinojos and Gerri Bracamonte. Virgie Lease, Manuel Ochoa, Anna Quesada, Rosie Ortega, Lucy Montijo, Lupe Guzman and Gloria Lopez received the Never Left Town award. First Time to Reunion from Class of 65 was Terri Corrales.

Siblings Attending the Reunion awards went to Linda Chavez Rico and Louie Chavez, Marilyn Miller and Steve Hales, Frances Jauregui Bufanda and Christian Jaurequi Lem, Virgie Jimenez Lease and Gracie Jimenez Calderon, Carol Cruz Popkin and Cecilia Cruz, Diana Mank Thomas and Jim Mank, Neal Herrington and Jean Herrington Leftridge, Olivia Dorame Goodridge and Lilia Dorame Underwood, Becky Slotter Jones and Thomas Slotter, Susan Giorsetti Hillman and John Giorsetti and Mickey Lopez Wasko and Gerri Lopez Bracamonte.

The School Sweethearts Still Married awards went to Herb and Sherry Ortiz (46 years), Rory and Dorothy Alexander (47 years), Joyce and Ken Morris (49 years), Billy and Dan Gillaspy (50 years), Gloria and Peter Rios (46 years), Lupita and David Bracamonte (50 years), and Frank and Gracie Calderon (40 years).

Married the Longest went to Dorothy Montoya (53 years) and the Newlywed went to Benny Ramirez (7 years). Receiving the award for Wedding Who Met at a Reunion went to Olivia and Richard Coolidge and Louie and Donna Chavez.

Most Kids, Grandkids and Great-Grandkids was awarded to Louie and Donna Chavez. These were Louie’s and Donna’s combined family. Most Step-KIds, The Grandkids and Great-Grandkids award went to Rosie Ortega.

The Never Left School award for those who became teachers was awarded to Mary Lou Knauff Long, Mickey Lopez Wasko and Gracie Jimenez Calderon.

Classmates from the 60s are: Donna Woods, Class of ‘61; Linda Rico, Marilyn Britton, Frances Bufanda, Christina Lem, Vera Robles, Billy Gillaspy, and Virgie Lease, Class of ‘62; Rory Alexander, Herb Ortiz, Mary Angel Castro, Donna Candelaria, Jose Parra, Wanda Tucker, Carol Cruz Popkin, Ken Morris, and David Bracamonte, Class of ‘63; Dorothy Montoya, John Dean, Velia Montano, Geneva Laswell, Neal Herrington, Steve Hales, Olivia Goodridge, Becky Jones, Johny Nunez, Benny Ramirez, Donna Crum Chavez, Conrad Martinez, Sherry Ortiz, Frank Calderon and Joe Romero, Class of ‘64.

The Class of 1965 attendees were: Joyce Morris, Mary Castillo, Dorothy Alexander, Maria Martinez, Donna Esparza, Lupita Bracamonte, Louie Chavez, Mickey Munoz, Susann Hillman, Manuel Ochoa, Janie Vaughan, Phillip Curtis, Anna Quesada, Cecilia Martinez, Rosie Cruz, Gloria Beltran, Ann Wood, Jean Herrington, James Mank, Terry Corrales, and Gracie Calderon,

Mary Lou Knauff, Richard Goodridge, Rodney Sedam, Harold Ortiz, Cecilia Cruz Baldenegro, Gloria Lopez, Polly Romero, Junior Chavez and Mickey Lopez Wasko represented the Class of 1966. The Class of 1967 attendees were Gloria Mendoza, Lilia Dorame, Rosie Corrales and Lucy Montijo. Odelia Chavez, Pete Rios, Gloria Rios, Gerri Bracamonte, Patsy Aranda, Sylvia Garcia, Carol Monroy and Frances Martin Moraga were there from the Class of ‘68. Last, but, not least, Thomas Slotter, Annie Hinojos and Lupe Guzman were the attendees for the Class of ‘69.

In addition to former alumni, Mr. Jerry Korn and Mrs. Rosalind Padilla attended under the categories of Teachers/Spouse.

The Class of ‘65 Reunion Committee were Gloria Hernandez Beltran, Susann Giorsetti Hillman, Margaret Stebbins Gaston, Anna Martinez Quesada, Jim Mank and Robert Coolidge.
