Love Lights and Luminaries on Alden Street

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmailby feather

Alden Street will be lit up in memory or in honor of those who have meant something to those in the Copper Basin area. It is good for the soul and heals a heartache to honor or memorialize a friend or relative who has passed away or when honoring someone deserving who has done something great. This will take place Friday, Dec. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

Luminaries were lit and placed on the hills, valleys and roof tops in northern New Mexico by the Spaniards and local pueblo Indians to light the way of the Christ Child. Angels were present at the Christ Child’s birth so it is fitting that angels and lights are used to fill us with the true meaning of the Christmas Spirit.

Angels will be hung on the Christmas tree at the Pinal County Building as the individual names are read and as the luminaries are lit along Alden. When you purchase the luminaries you can decorate the bags or Junior Chamber members can do it for you. The McCallister family started the tradition in memory of their son many years ago and it is a great tribute to loved ones.

Those attending can walk up and down Alden and read the names of those honored. Both ceremonies are very meaningful and inspirational.

The Angel proceeds go to a scholarship fund and the luminaries proceeds will be split between the Junior Chamber scholarship fund and the new Ronald Mac Donald house in Mesa. The Junior Chamber members will be able to do community service at the site when they deliver the money.

Help light up Alden Street Friday night.
