The Town of Superior is pleased to announce the approval of an economic and community development agreement with Resolution Copper for 2018. The Town Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement at its January meeting.

The grant in the amount of $25,000 will allow the Town to conduct a hotel feasibility study and develop an architectural design and plan for the construction of a Multi-Generation Center/Library.

“This funding is necessary for the Town to move forward on two of our goals which have been set by the council. As our community grows and becomes more of a destination we will need additional hotels and community facilities to serve our residents and businesses,” said Mayor Mila Besich-Lira.

Resolution Copper Project Director, Andrew Lye said, “We’re proud to be partnering with the Town of Superior on these exciting initiatives. It’s an example of where we continue to work together evaluating projects which have mutual benefits for the residents of Superior and Resolution Copper.”

The hotel feasibility study will be managed by Rebuild Superior, Inc., a local non-profit community development organization, which will develop the scope of work and manage the consulting firm hired for the study.

“We have learned that a hotel feasibility study is required in order to discuss development opportunities with potential hotel operators,” said Deb McKee of Rebuild Superior, Inc. “and we look forward to working on this key Town objective.”

The Town’s engineering firm, Willdan, will work closely with the Community Development Committee on the potential site and design of the Multi-Generation Center/Library.The council voted unanimously to contract with both Rebuild Superior, Inc. and Willdan Engineering for the studies and plans to be completed.

Town staff has been working closely with the Superior Chamber of Commerce Business Attraction and Retention program (BAR) to follow through with the recommendations made to the community by the consulting firms who worked on the first phase of the BAR program.

Superior Chamber of Commerce President, Sue Anderson said, “This collaborative work between the Town and Rebuild Superior, Inc. will help us move faster on projects that are important to the Town’s economy.”
