Students honors presented at Ray High School

  The 2015-16 Ray High School Classroom Awards Assembly was held last week in the RHS auditorium.

  The program opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Student Council President Jeron Coleman followed by Mr. Cook, Principal, who welcomed parents and guests.

  Mr. Cook also acted as MC and introduced the following teachers who presented the classroom awards:

  Mrs. Palmer – Academic Achievement awards, French, Ryan Amos; Eng. 4,  Ashlie Bryce and Tristin Cupples; Eng. 4 CP Gabrielle Juvera; Eng. 3, Shannon Pitner; Eng. 3 CP, Kenneth Palmer.

  Mrs. Jordan – Excellence in Eng. 2, Ema Alvarado and Alena Martinez and English Endurance Award, Katlyn Gantt; Excellence in English 2 CP, Naomi-Bo Hing and Elizabeth Ziegler and English Endurance Award, Janae Ruiz; Excellence in English 1, Brien Sanders-Lopez and English Endurance Award, Dakota Willis; Excellence in English 1 CP Daniella Hinojos and Hailey Rutter. Also recognized were Yearbook Editor, August Patterson and Asst. Editors, Kami Ratliff, Shannon Pitner and Megan Giorsetti and Best T.A. Ever, August Patterson.

  Mrs.  Smith – Most Improved Freshman, Fabian Hong; Most Improved Sophomore, Robert Creel-Marler, Most Improved Junior, Tara Lane, Most Improved Senior, Alyssa Sotelo.

  Mrs Casillas – Alg. III, Taylor Ashby,  Ashlie Bryce and Addy Romero; Alg. II, Charley Romero and Shannon Pitner.

  Mr. Pacheco – Academic Excellence in Algebra I, E.J. Baca, Riley Cude, Daniella Hinojos, Amee Kenyon, Janna Lengal,  Anthony Lopez, Tara Lorona, Jaden Pace, Haffiley Rutter, Romeo Williams-Varley.  Algebra I Student of the Year, Tara Lorona.

  Mr. Cude – Outstanding Industrial Tech Students, Brett Fackiner, Haily Mabuce, Jordan Pace, Dyllin Sanders-Lopez, Paul Wormwood, Tanner Willis, Dakota Willis, Morgan Bray.

  Mr. Chenoweth – Outstanding Weights Student, Patrick Llanez. 

  Mrs. Cook – Life Connections Student of the Year, Ainsley Bull.

  After the Classroom awards were announced Mr. Cook  introduced the Bearcat Excellence Award winners, Stormee Galka and Savannah Willis and the Bearcat Leadership award for 2016, Gabrielle Juvera.

Vicki Clark (49 Posts)

Vicki started her career in the journalism field while attending Ray High School in Kearny with an excellent teacher who took her by the hand and guided her. She worked on the school newspaper and as a senior was a co-editor. Her dream was to go on to college to study journalism and eventually to travel the world reporting the news. This dream was interrupted by life circumstances. She stayed in Kearny and went to work for the Copper Basin News in 1964 as a typesetter. Her editor was Ira Q. Toler and he also was a good teacher. After marrying and having children, her desires to again work in the newspaper field surfaced. She responded to an ad for a position in advertising for the Copper Basin News which included selling, lay-out and design. She was hired on the spot. The business has greatly changed with technology and the introduction of desktop publishing. She was fortunate enough to be a part of it. She has now worked for Copper Area News Publishers on and off for over 30 years, starting when John Seater was the publisher. She has held many positions over the years, but is most proud to be named a reporter. She loves to write and is so grateful for being given that chance.
