Hayden senior wrestler Mikee Mariscal wants to win a state wrestling championship.
“I’m looking forward to bringing a state championship back to home this year,” Mariscal wrote in a message to Copper Basin News.
The undefeated Lobos’ team captain is certainly a top contender in the 113-lb weight class with a 21 – 0 record to date. He recently took first place at the Gila Valley Tournament, and last weekend finished first at the Chandler Prep Invitational.
“Being undefeated only makes me work harder,” Mariscal said. “It puts a target on my head, but as Coach Estrada always says, ‘You (must) wrestle the best to be the best,’”
If Mariscal can successfully bring a state title back to Hayden, he’ll know he didn’t do it alone.
“I want to thank all of my friends, family, coaches, and most of all, my parents, for their support,” he said.
