Daniel Radcliffe, Jr. (“Jr.”) was recently recognized for his efforts as the Apache Junction Unified School District Transportation Vehicle Emissions Inspector. Through his tireless efforts and outstanding work, the AJUSD fleet was awarded as “Fleet of the Year” by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
Each year, ADEQ selects one entity in each area to honor from among all the diesel fleets that employ their own fleet inspectors. This includes school bus fleets, city bus fleets, concrete trucks, delivery vehicles and more. AJUSD earned the award for “Area A,” which includes most of the greater Phoenix area.
“AJUSD has not purchased a bus for 12 years,” commented superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson, “so the fact that they are still serviceable speaks to the quality of our transportation team. Receiving the award for ‘Fleet of the Year’ for clean emissions and clean air is a step beyond; it’s just phenomenal. Kudos to Jr. and kudos to transportation. Well done and well deserved.”
Radcliffe completes a breadth of courses each year to maintain his certification and is responsible for completing emissions testing for district vehicles, ensuring their compliance with Arizona Emissions Standards. He regularly calibrates and maintains the department Smoke Opacity Meter, which is subject to several random inspections by state auditors. He is also audited on his documentation and tested for his accuracy and has repeatedly received outstanding audit scores.
“We are proud of Jr.’s accomplishment and effort to ensure excellence in the inspection and maintenance of our fleet,” stated transportation director Tom Thorpe. “This recognition just goes to show the quality our team is committed to.”
Radcliffe is a resident of Kearny.
