Arizona-based mining company, Resolution Copper, today named Victoria (“Vicky”) Peacey as the project’s new President and General Manager, responsible for overseeing all aspects of planning, development and operations.

A longtime copper and mining industry veteran who has served as acting Project Director since the summer, Peacey has held a number of leadership roles at Resolution Copper and Rio Tinto, which she joined in 2002. Most recently, Peacey was Chief of Staff to the Chief Operating Officer for Rio Tinto Copper. Her previous roles at Resolution Copper include Senior Manager Community and External Affairs as well as Senior Manager Permitting and Cultural Heritage, where she played a key role in community engagement and technical studies that built strong local support for the project. Earlier in her career, Peacey held a variety of operations and environmental positions with Rio Tinto Kennecott and Barneys Canyon in Utah and Kennecott Eagle Minerals in Michigan.

“Vicky brings a depth of knowledge and experience to the Resolution Copper project that make her ideally suited to lead the team through this critical moment in its development,” said Clayton Walker, Chief Operating Officer, Rio Tinto Copper. “Her strong ties to this community and commitment to responsible development and operations will help us build a model for mining copper in the future.”

Resolution Copper is expected to be a critical player in the nation’s clean energy transition, with the potential to supply up to one quarter of U.S. copper demand, adding up to $1 billion a year to Arizona’s economy and creating thousands of local jobs in a region where mining has played an important role for more than a century. Working with community partners and Native American tribes, we are committed to helping build healthy, strong and resilient communities where we live and work.

“I have first-hand knowledge of how local community and Native American input has shaped the Resolution Copper project, and I am so grateful for this incredible opportunity at a time when the country needs domestic sources of copper and critical minerals more than ever,” said Peacey. “We are deeply invested in rural Arizona’s future which will become a key player in the new clean energy economy. We also remain committed to engaging in good faith and maintaining two-way dialogue with local communities, Native American tribes and all interested stakeholders so the project moves forward responsibly and sustainably. We are looking for a path to co-exist and preserve the cultural heritage of the Copper Triangle area while creating new economic opportunities that will put rural Arizona resources and workers at the center of the nation’s clean energy transformation.”
