On May 13, the Hayden baseball team continued their trek to the 1A State Championships. The Lobos played against Mogollon in the semi-finals. This would be the second time during the season that Hayden played against Mogollon. In their previous game, the Lobos lost 7-8, by only one point.

The game started off with a battle. Neither of the teams wanted to give up any points. It wasn’t until the fifth inning when the first run was posted by the Lobos, unfortunately it was followed by Mogollon also scoring 1 run. The game remained a 1-1 tie until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Mogollon was able to score 1 run, sending them to the championship game, and sending the Lobos home.

The boys closed out their 2022 season with an overall record of 19 wins and 5 losses.

“They just worked their tails off, and got better in practice, and get better in games, and we tried to improve every game and every practice,” commented head coach Robert Lorona. “They’re just good kids, well behaved kids, they’re just a pleasure to coach. I’ve been blessed to be with them. We’ve been blessed to have good parents, and the community is great and very supportive of us.”
