Hayden, San Manuel to each host first round of playoffs Friday

Hayden Lobos

  Hayden High School and San Manuel High School, both being the higher seeds in their playoff matches, will host first round playoff games on Friday.

  Hayden will face off against Valley Union on Lobo Field Friday.

  On Oct.15, the Hayden football team played its last game in the regular season against St. David. The Lobos were unable to return home with the win. The final score of the game was 20-65.

  As of Oct. 17, the Hayden football team is ranked 6 in the Arizona 1A football division. 

  The Lobos will face off against Valley Union in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, Oct. 22, at Hayden Stadium with a kickoff time of 7 p.m. Tickets for the game must be purchased online. To purchase tickets, go to gofan.co and search “Hayden High School, Winkelman, AZ”. Adult tickets are $10, Senior Citizen/Military tickets are $5, and Student tickets are $5.

San Manuel Miners

  San Manuel will face Tempe Prep on Friday.

  On Oct. 15, the San Manuel football team traveled to Baboquivari to compete in the final game of the regular football season. The game ended with a final score of 60-6 in the Miners’ favor.

  “Our team went 7-1 in regular season, and I’m very proud of our kids on how hard they worked,” head coach Ernie Ivy told the Miner.

  Noah Huerta had 5 touchdowns during the game, two of them being a “Pick 6”. Ralphie Valencia had a 99-yard rushing touchdown, Valencia also threw 2 touchdown passes. Isaiah Lopez had 18 tackles on defense. Coach Ivy also noted Justin Tafoya and Augustine Ramiro as also both having a good game. 

  “We play Tempe Prep at home for the first round of playoffs,” Ivy stated, “It’s been a long time, since the 90’s. We are all excited and will work hard for this game.”

  Tickets for the first round playoff game at Fred Littau Stadium must be purchased online. To purchase tickets, go to gofan.co and search “San Manuel High School”. Adult tickets are $10, Senior Citizen/Military tickets are $5, and Student tickets are $5. The game will have a kickoff time of 7 p.m.

  As of Sunday, Oct. 7, the San Manuel Miner football team is ranked 5th in the Arizona 1A Division.
