Mrs. Joy Brooks, 85 years of age, and a longtime resident of San Manuel, passed from her earthly dwelling to her heavenly home on Sept. 30, 2020. Joy has been in declining health in the past year culminating in emergency abdominal surgery on Sept. 11, 2020. Her passing has left a huge hole in the lives of her family, her Assembly of God church family and the many friendships accumulated throughout her 64 years living in San Manuel.

In the early years of her marriage, along with her homemaking skills, Joy was also an excellent bookkeeper whose handwriting skill was a true thing of beauty. She was a faithful member and congregant of the San Manuel Assembly of God Church, who knew how to joyfully worship the Lord. She was a true friend to all and a confidant to many. She loved to laugh and have a good time. She amazed and possibly shocked some folks one Saturday morning at the Farmers Market when she and great-grandson Isaac were observed doing the “Twist” to the tune of “Rockin’ Robin”.

Joy was born on Feb. 20, 1935 to Noel and Hettie Wright in Erick, Oklahoma.   She was the last of eight siblings.

She is survived by daughter, Karen Hogg (Lee); granddaughter, Ashlee Hogg (Roy); great-grandson, Isaac Halbert; and her longtime husband of 65 years, Lynn Brooks. Though we miss her painfully for now, we are comforted in the knowledge that we will be together again. Our hope and confidence is in Jesus Christ and no other.
