Celeste Andresen, a resident of San Manuel and employee of the Nature Conservancy, was killed last week in Somerset County, New Jersey after being struck by a vehicle.

Andresen, according to NJ Advance Media for NJ.com, was visiting the area and out for an afternoon run when 56-year-old Kevin D. Betyeman struck her with his pickup truck. He was cited for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian. The website reports that criminal charges are pending.

Andresen, 60, was an avid runner and was stopped at a designated crosswalk. Another vehicle stopped to allow her to cross the road and was more than halfway across the road when she was struck by Betyeman.

She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Andresen was recently interviewed by Copper Area News in a story about the Winkelman Natural Resource Conservation District. She has lived in the area for many years, working for the Nature Conservancy and was also involved for a time with the Copper Corridor Economic Development Coalition.
