Olivia Virginia Ochoa

After a prolonged battle with cancer, Olivia Virginia Ochoa passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley, Friendship Village in Tempe, Arizona.

She was born Oct. 22, 1943 in Ray, AZ.  Virginia was born to Joe Ochoa and Pearl Abril Chavez.  She is survived by her two sisters Lorinda DeLong and Dolores Ochoa and by numerous nieces, nephews, and god children.  Nieces and nephews include Tina Ochoa Quinonez, Frank Joseph Ochoa Jr., Monica Garcia, Daniel Ochoa, Angela DeLong, and Alexandria DeLong.  Great nieces and nephews include Anthony Corral, Michael Corral, Eric Corral, Abrianna Ochoa, Frank Ochoa III, Clarissa Garcia, Alexis Garcia, Adriel Garcia, Daniel Ochoa Jr., and Scarlett Ochoa.  Great-great niece and nephew are Natalie Corral-Quinonez and Henry Corral.  She had countless god children that she loved throughout her life.  She will be forever missed by them all.

Virginia was an incredible teacher for many years.  She began her teaching career in Hayden, Arizona and shortly transferred to Kearny, Arizona.  She taught many years at Ray School where she touched so many lives.  Virginia, “Miss Ochoa” is what she was known as to many adults and children of who she taught.  She enjoyed being in her classroom and teaching her junior high students.  She loved all sports, but most of all she loved the Los Angeles Dodgers.  She would travel near and far to see them during Spring Training and the regular season. Virginia spent most of her life visiting family/friends and exploring the world.  Her love for traveling took her all over the world many times over.

What she treasured most in life was her family, her friends, and her students. Above all, she valued the relationships she had with each and every person that was a part of her life. More than anything else, she loved being a sister, an aunt, and a god mother. She reveled in her family’s love and cherished her time watching it grow.  When diagnosed with cancer, she remained dedicated to her family and friends in her will to fight her illness. She remained a brave, iron-willed woman, even throughout her final days.

Services for Virginia will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard, 509 Danbury Road in Kearny, Arizona.  There will be a small reception following the service.
