Juanita Fernández Kame

Juanita Fernández Kame, 95, entered into eternal life on Nov. 29, 2016. She was born in Hayden, Arizona on Jan. 2, 1921 to her parents Rafael and Antonia Fernandez.

Juanita is preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Alfredo G. Kame.  Juanita also was preceded in death by parents, Rafael and Antonia Fernández, and loving sister, Antonia López.

Juanita is survived by daughter, Rosalia and son-in-law, Bruce Parks, and sons, Alfredo, Luis and daughter-in-law, Sylvia, Benjamin, and Carlos, by 8 grandchildren, Veronica Taylor, Mario and Jeneva Parks, Alejandro Kame, Miguelangel, Lorena, Raquel and Marisol Kame, and 3 great-grandchildren, Harli, Mason, and Ethan Taylor.  Juanita is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, most especially Olivia Camacho, Ricardo and Rudy López, Juanita Navarro, and Rosie Law.

Juanita dedicated her life to her husband and family and despite having lost her own mother at age two, she instinctively embodied what the ultimate loving and supportive mother should be. Born with poor eyesight, Juanita was determined to do well in school and was valedictorian of her high school class even though she did not obtain her first pair of glasses until she entered her senior year in high school, which was made possible with the assistance of the Lion’s Club. Juanita was unable to continue her education as she was raised in a time when women and minorities were not encouraged or expected to attend college. Juanita and Alfredo emphasized the importance of education to their children and all received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and three received advanced degrees including a Doctor of Medicine, Juris Doctorate, and a Master in Education, all with the financial sacrifice of their parents. Juanita was a devout and faithful Catholic and truly lived her faith.

Special heartfelt thanks from Juanita’s family to Richard F. Hoffman, M.D. and all of the caregivers at Casa De La Luz Hospice for the care, tenderness, and compassion shown to Juanita during her last days.

Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Monsignor Raúl Trevizo was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Parish in Hayden, Arizona on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016.
