Leonor Hambly K-8 would like to congratulate Damian Garcia for an outstanding performance at the State Math Championship in Tucson on May 9. His hard work qualified him for the National Math Championship in Houston, Texas. Damian continued to study and prepare for this big challenge. He went to Houston, Texas on June 5 and competed on June 6. He did an amazing job. He is a great role model for all students from a small school, proving the size of a school doesn’t matter, as long as you have encouragement, hard work, and dedication. Teachers Jennifer Martinez and Brandi Navarro worked with him to prepare for competition. Helping out financially were: Hayden-Winkelman School District funded the trip, Leonor Hambly K-8 student council, Mrs. Lopez and all the NJHS students, and ASARCO employees for all the donations to help with all other expenses. Damian is very grateful for the HWUSD staff and community for their support and encouragement. Leonor Hambly K-8 is excited to continue the “Mathlete’s Club” during the 2015-2016 school year. And Damian, all your fans in the Copper Basin are very proud of you! Can’t wait to see what comes next for you.
