VFW News: Sometimes it’s what you did and sometimes it’s what you do: The Art of Being Superior

Christopher Villaverde and Valerie Garcia-Denogean

It has been brought to our attention that Mrs. Valerie Rae Garcia-Denogean won the Teacher of the Year award for Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3584. In the meantime, Chris Villaverde won Firefighter of the Year. Both were also, in this last week, named VFW District 10’s First Place Winners, beating out contenders from Apache Junction, Chandler, Florence, Casa Grande and Maricopa. They will go on to compete against others from all over the state, and, eventually, from around the country.

These two outstanding Superiorites are making the community proud!

The public at large is being offered their own opportunity to do something to make themselves and their community proud. There are three days open in which to volunteer to help bring the The Garden Project, at John F. Kennedy Elementary, to fruition. Volunteers are needed to create a garden for the youth of Superior.

Thursday, Dec. 21 and Friday, Dec. 22, followed by Thursday, Dec. 28 are the days which volunteers are sought for, with a start time of 10 a.m.  It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, or, even if you have tools. All help will be appreciated. Tools will be provided. Of course, if you have some, bringing them along will also be appreciated. If you have questions on the project you may call or text Mike Montiel at 480-272-3786.
