Dog owners will need to keep their pets leashed or fenced or risk costly citations from the town.

At the Mammoth Town Hall meeting held Thursday, Jan. 15 it was announced by Interim Police Chief Steve Nash, with the backing of the mayor and town council, that owners of dogs that are picked up for running loose or other incidents may be cited. Violators can be fined up to $500 by the court. Animal complaints are up and some residents have complained they cannot even walk on the sidewalks due to aggressive large dogs blocking their way.

Chief Nash has been picking up dogs and placing them in a kennel at the station. This has saved the town money. If Pinal County Animal Control is called in, the town is obligated to pay $250 to have the animal picked up. Even if MPD delivers the animal to the county the Town of Mammoth is charged $90. Mammoth residents need to keep their dogs leashed or fenced or they will be picked up and they will be cited and possibly fined.
