In Matthew 14 we read the account of Peter walking on the water. The boat was quite a ways from the shore and being hit by a severe storm.
When Jesus invited Peter to walk on the water with Him, he courageously stepped out of the safety of the boat and onto the wind battered waves. This took a lot of faith and trust in the Lord. He did not throw common sense aside, but truly trusted that God would provide.
When he took His eyes off of Jesus and focused on the storm and the circumstances he was surrounded by, he began to sink into those circumstances. He stopped trusting in Jesus to keep him safe and thought about his own abilities to deal with the storm.
Jesus simply said: “you have very little faith – why did you doubt?” Jesus reached out His hand and pulled Peter up out of the water to stand on top of it. Together they walked to the boat. When circumstances seem to be intent on drowning you, call upon the Lord and He will rescue you and keep you safe.
