The Mammoth Public Library has a new librarian and librarian’s assistant. Letha Miller, formerly of Oracle and a graduate of San Manuel High School, is the new Librarian. April Lopez is the new librarian assistant. She has been living in Mammoth for over a month. She is originally from Superior where she grew up and graduated from Superior High School. Both ladies are working hard to continue the programs and activities that they are known for.

Plans are being made for a “Day of Fun in the Sun”. The Library wants to team up with first responders in the area and have the kids and public get to meet them. Their will be food and water activities and a summer reading program is being coordinated.

The program will begin July 23rd and last for three weeks until school starts in August. The reading program will be every Tuesday and Thursday and kids can register at the library.

Every kid that participates will receive a book bag. They will have chances to win prizes. Charts will be made and hung on the wall of the library. Every kid participating will have a picture of an empty ice cream cone with their name on it placed on the chart. They will then have a picture of a scoop of ice cream added on top of their cone for each book that they read. At the end of the summer reading program they will have an ice cream party. Be a “Book Worm” READ is the motto for the program.

Every Wednesday beginning at 5:30 p.m. is movie night at the library with free popcorn. There are also free guitar lessons every Wednesday beginning at 3:30.

Both Letha and April are adept in computer use and the library offers free computer instruction. They currently have seven desk top and ten lap top computers for public use. The library will be working with senior citizens to get them involved with computers and the library.

Letha said everyone is welcome in the library, whether you are a toddler or senior citizen. Letha and April welcome suggestions about making the library a better place or ideas for new programs. They also said, “Anytime you walk in, you will get a smile.” The Mammoth Public Library is also looking for volunteers to help with the fun in the sun day. They are looking for donations and contributions to help with food and drinks for the day. Contact the library for more information about the Day of Fun in the Sun or to volunteer. Call (520) 487-2026.

Library hours are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and closed Sunday and Monday.
