The Ray girls and the Superior boys’ basketball teams will play for section championships at Thatcher High School on Saturday night.
The No. 4-seed Lady Cats defeated No. 5 Mogollon in the quarterfinals and top-seeded San Carlos in the semis to secure a spot in the Division V Section IV Championship game. The Lady Cats will face No. 2-seed Ft. Thomas. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
The Panthers, who are also a No. 4-seed, defeated No. 5 Duncan in the quarters before pulling what is perhaps the biggest upset in Division V so far in the postseason, beating top-seed and No. 1-ranked San Carlos on Friday night, 59 – 52. The loss was only the Braves’ fourth of the season.
Superior will battle No. 2-seed Miami for the section championship on Saturday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
