Deadline is Friday for Copper Basin Citizen of the Year Nominations

Nominations for Copper Basin Citizen of the Year are due this week at the Chamber office.  The nominee must live in the Copper Basin Area.  List all the reasons this person deserves the award.  Groups are not eligible and the letter must be signed. The COY dinner is Monday, Feb. 29.  Rose Bradford and Debra Sommers are in charge of the arrangements.

The Women’s Expo gets more popular every year.  If you have a business whether hand crafted or manufactured products  be sure to sign up for the Women’s Expo to sell or advertise your product.  It is interesting to see how many women in the area have small businesses which, with publicity, are expanding.  Drop by the Hayden High School mini auditorium Saturday, Feb. 27.  There will be guest speakers, interactive program, the Pioneer Days Queen Fashion Show and speech contest, door prizes every 20 minutes and a concession stand which will be open all day.  Contact Martina Burnam through the Chamber office in person or call 520-363-7607.

The Spirit of the West is what Pioneer Days is all about this year. The Queen candidates have been meeting, will be selling tickets and are under the direction of Angela Ramirez.  Vendor applications have been mailed and applications have been received.  There is still two weeks for food vendors to reply.  Gayle Carnes, Nancy Hinojos and Rosalind Padilla will supervise Vendor Row.  T shirt ads for the backs of the shirts are being solicited by Jean Slater and Nancy Hinojos.  T shirt pre sales will start Feb. 6,  and only presales will be available.

Volunteers are always needed and Anna Flores at the Town Hall  and Maria Munoz at CAC will gladly take your name and assign you a job at the info desk, front gate or parade or other much needed assistance.

The theme for the parade “Spirit of the West” lends itself for a variety of float ideas.  Start thinking of how you want your entry to look.  Rose Bradford and Debra Sommers encourage you to get your parade application in early so they can get the lineup and Master of Ceremonies script ready in a timely order.  The day of the parade is hectic enough without all entries signing up at the last minute.

Posters and event designs have been produced by Martina Burnam.

Jonathan Archuleta is in charge of the Softball Tournament and the schedule will be published at a later date due to the date changes.

We hope to see you at Pioneer Park Wednesday through Saturday, March 23-27.
