Copper Area well represented at sectional basketball tournaments

  Four basketball teams from Copper Area schools will be competing for a sectional championship and the accompanying automatic bid to next week’s 2016 AIA Division V State Championship Tournament.

  The Ray and San Manuel girls’ teams, both members of Section IV, will start with quarterfinal games on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Thatcher High School.

  No. 4-seed Ray will face No. 5-seed Mogollon at 5:15 p.m. with the winner playing No. 1-seed San Carlos on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

  No. 6-seed San Manuel will take on No. 3-seed Duncan at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to play No. 2-seed Ft. Thomas on Thursday at 5:15 p.m.

  On the boys’ side, Superior and San Manuel, also members of Section IV, will play in quarterfinal games, beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Thatcher High School.

  No. 4-seed Superior will battle No. 5-seed Duncan at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday with the winner taking on No. 1-seed San Carlos on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.

  No. 6-seed San Manuel will face No. 3-seed Ft. Thomas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with the winner advancing to face No. 2-seed Miami on Friday at 5:15 p.m.

  Both championship games will take place on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Thatcher High School. The girls’ championship is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. and the boys’ will follow with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
