Artemisa “Artie” Romero Contreras was born on April 21,1918 to Jose and Carmen Romero in Christmas, Arizona, the first of a family of 12. She passed away on March 13, 2016 at her home in Hayden with her two daughters at her side. She was 97 years old, just one month shy of her 98th birthday.

Artie was loved by many and a joy to behold. She was a housewife and she loved to cook and write in her daily journal. She was a member of her local LDS church and one of her proudest accomplishments was being a missionary for the Mormon Temple in Mexico City, where she served two years. Artie and her daughter, Sally also served together  in the Mesa Mormon Temple.

Artie was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel, eldest daughter Carmelita, five sisters and one brother. She leaves behind her daughters, Celia and Christina Contreras; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Frank (Cruz), Walter, Robert (Betty), Billy (Yolanda) and Joey Romero.

Services were held Friday, March 18, at the Church of Latter-day Saints in Kearny. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
