Surrounded by his loving wife, his children and close family members Jackie Wayne Mathews went home to be with his Savior on Monday, July 20, 2015 at the age of 76.

Jack was born on May 26, 1939 in Sequatchie, TN. His family moved to the Miami/Globe area when he was 4 years old. When he was 17 he joined the US Navy. Jack was employed with Kennecott-ASARCO for 37 years. He tried retirement for about five years, but had a strong desire to continue working. In 2004 he went through the Police Academy and began working at the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.

Throughout his life, he stayed busy with hobbies and work (he rarely sat still). Jack had many interests and talents including genealogy, hunting, fishing, camping, being outdoors, working/fixing things, and he was very family oriented.

He made an impact on the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Jack leaves more than memories, he leaves a legacy.

He is survived by his wife, Ileana Mathews; siblings, Betty Jeffcoat, Clara Roach, and Richard Mathews; three children, Lorraine Mathews (Doug), Michael (Rebecca) Mathews and Trysten Mathews; two grandchildren, Christopher Mathews and Alyxandra (Matthew) Padgett; six step-children and their families, Freddie Lopez, Reggie Lopez, Manny Lopez, Tony Lopez, Jose Lopez and Yvette (Patrick) Montijo.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Edward and Lillian Elora (Shrader) Mathews; and three siblings, Luther “Jr” Mathews, Orville Mathews and Lillian Hileman.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, August 1, at 1 p.m. at Bullion Plaza in Miami, AZ.

In God’s care you rest above, in our hearts you rest with love. Memories of you are ours to keep, our words are few but our love is deep.
