Celedonia “Sally” Lopez Yniguez, 88 was called home to the arms of the Lord on Feb. 16, 2015. She was born in Sonora, Ariz. on March 3, 1926. She attended school up to the eighth grade. She married Epifanio “Guero” Yniguez in 1948. They moved to Superior in 1954 and were married for 29 years before Guero passed away in 1977.
Sally was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She sung in the church choir for many years. She was a homemaker and was very active in the community. She was one of the founding members of the “Happy Face” organization providing food and assistance for those in need during the holidays. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary, Logia Porfirio Diaz , and a master of ceremonies for the St. Francis Fiestas for many years. She was very active in picketing and marching during the formation of the Miners Union in the 1950s and 60s. She loved Mariachi and Mexican Folk music and enjoyed singing and storytelling. She was a great cook and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was very patriotic and was extremely proud of her Mexican-American Heritage. She was a strong influence on many family members, friends and members of the community.
Sally was preceded in death by her daughter Maria “Kelly” Yniguez. She is survived by her son Robert Yniguez (Mary Frances), daughter Veronica Yniguez-Apodaca (Alex) and son Henry Yniguez (Rosanne); eight grandchildren, Michael, Aaron, Bobby, Kelly, Larissa, Alex, Emiliano, Ariana; 11 great grandchildren, Marisela, Tatiana, Jay, Victor, Annette, Jordan, Keyona, Alex Jr., Lilli , Diego and Niko, brother Salome Lopez and many nieces and nephews and extended family whom she was very close to.
Funeral Services were held Feb. 21, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior. Online Guestbook: www.SuperiorFuneral.com.
