Clotilde “Tillie” (Castro) Mendoza, 104, of Superior, Ariz. died peacefully on Nov. 20, 2014. Born in Wickenburg, Ariz., April 20, 1910, Tillie moved to Superior when she was six years old and lived there for over 80 years. For 38 of those years Tillie worked for O.C. Hing, at Save Money Market, holding a variety of positions. A divorced mother of two, she ruled her household with a demanding hand but soft heart, and single-handedly raised her two children, Lillian (Mendoza) Amado, and Rudy C. Burrola. Tillie was incredibly proud of her two ASU Sun Devil Graduates – both of whom went on to become educators.
Having never learned to drive, Tillie walked to work every day, and attributed remaining very active to her longevity, (along with a shot of tequila now and then, of course!). Tillie was involved in many different local clubs/activities and really enjoyed her time spent volunteering at the Superior Senior Center. Her love for crocheting was endless, and all the beautiful things she made and gave away are testament to her kindness and generosity. Tillie was the epitome of strength and integrity, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband Frank Mendoza and son Rudy C. Burrola, she is survived by her daughter Lillian M. Amado, daughter-in-law, Dolores (Rudy) Burrola, grandchildren Frank, Irma, Cathy, Sue, Bill, David, Michael, 15 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. A celebration of Tillie’s life was held Dec. 2, 2014, at Mountain View Funeral Chapel and Cemetery, Mesa Ariz.
Please consider a donation to the Superior Senior Center, 360 Main St., Superior AZ 85173; the AZ Humane Society, or, simply help someone in need or who is less fortunate than yourself, that’s what Tillie would have done.
