The students and staff of Superior Head Start invited the community to come and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the national Headstart program. The Headstart program is a federal program that provides pre-school programs for the low to moderate income residents in the United States. The program focusses on the basic fundamentals of learning through play, reading and age appropriate lessons and helping the children to learn by doing.

The Superior Headstart had a patriotic celebration where they learned about the colors red, white and blue, they made hats with red, white and blue and they made a healthy red, white and blue snack of strawberries, blueberries and yogurt. The students practiced serving themselves and few even helped to serve the guests in attendance.

This week the students will take their first walking field trip through their school neighborhood. They will walk around the block and learn where different businesses are and see their neighborhood.

The Superior Headstart has been serving residents of Superior for over 20 years. The school accepts donations of magazines and other items to have for craft supplies and the students always love when community members stop in to read to them.
