By Mayor Sam Hosler, Town of Kearny
I hope that many of us will keep 6 p.m. of Monday, Dec. 5, open on our calendars. That’s the night all residents are invited to Constitution Hall to take part in an Input Meeting for Kearny’s ten-year General and Economic Plan. Now, I do realize that this is a busy time of year. But for the good of Kearny’s future, I ask all of us to come and offer our hopes, our concerns, our dreams for the future of this treasured town.
Mr. Brad Mecham of Central Arizona Governments will meet with us at 6 p.m. this Monday to receive all our comments and to ask the kinds of questions we need to answer. This will be a vital, living document after it is produced, with planning and economic tools for us to use. The plan is a required element for us to receive state and federal grants, so we want it to be true and convincing.
This Monday night is one in a series of events to build the plan. Please come and make use of it.
Yes, it’s a busy time of year. This Saturday is the Winter Festival and Light Parade, with vendors on Alden Road and the parade brightening the night. Here’s hoping the weather takes a liking to us.
The students at Ray High School are setting up teams to work with Journey for a Clean Kearny in its cleanup efforts. Almost 20 students have signed up to go out with mowers and trimmers and yard tools to assist Kearny residents with beautification. We are seeking donations of rakes, hoes, mowers and trimmers. Already, we have received gloves and safety goggles from ASARCO and a fine line trimmer from Norm and Myra at our IGA. Can you help? Call Town Hall (363-5547) for more information. Call that number also if you can offer your yard for the students to work on. Empty lots are also candidates for this service.
And as we start on our Christmas shopping, let’s work to be as local as possible. We are certainly not a “big box” town, but our merchants offer many special things this time of year. If we do head out of town, let’s fill our tanks here before we leave and let’s not purchase things (such as food) that we can buy right here. Buying locally has a ripple effect in terms of helping all of us.
