Juan Cisneros retires from Military Service

Raquel and Juan Cisneros are happy to be starting retirement after 20 years of military service.

Former Superior resident Juan J. Cisneros has retired from the United States Army at Ft. Bliss, Texas after serving his country for 20 years.

Juan was born in Kearny and raised in Superior where he graduated from Superior High School in 1978. He lived his first four years in the now buried town of Sonora, Arizona where he received the nick name “Bambino de Sonora”. He still has family in the area.

He is the son of the late Antonio M. Cisneros Jr. and Marie P. Cisneros. He has two brothers, Orlando and Antonio, and a sister, Lucy, from Superior. Juan is married to the former Raquel B. Alvarado of Superior. She is the daughter of Socorro Padilla-Alvarado of Superior and the late Manuel P. Alvarado. Her brothers are Manuel, Richard, and David. Her sister is Maria Garfias. Juan and Raquel have a grown son Emilio Manuel Cisneros who lives in Idaho with his wife Ashleigh.

Juan enlisted in the Army in 1995, entering active duty at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was a 19K (Armor crew member M1A tank), transitioned to 14E (Patriot operator/maintainer) in 1999 and became a Warrant Officer in 2003. Juan was a Chief Warrant Officer 3 upon retirement. He was deployed in Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; Korea 2003 – 2005; and Quatar 2012 – 2013.

Juan and Raquel live in El Paso, Texas. Juan has a B.A. Degree from Grantham University in Kansas and is currently pursuing his Masters in Leadership Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso. He expects to graduate in December 2015.

Juan’s father and grandparents are buried in the Superior cemetery. He has friends and family in Superior so he will be coming back now and then to visit his hometown.
