John Bradley ‘Brad’ Owensby

John Bradley “Brad” Owensby, 41, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017. He was born on Nov. 27, 1975 in Globe, AZ to John and Gayle Owensby.  He was the youngest of four children.  He graduated from Ray High School in 1993. Brad met his wife, Monica, in high school and they welcomed a baby girl, Chelsea, on Nov. 10, 1994. Brad and Monica were joined in union on July 22, 1995.   Brad also worked at Asarco Smelter from 1998-2000.

In February 2000, Brad enlisted in the US Army as a combat medic.  His military career took him and his family to Katterbach, Germany where he worked at the health clinic. The family spent four years traveling and seeing all Europe had to offer.  His career then took him and his family to Maryland where he served in several units.  One of those units was at the Outpatient Clinic at the Walter Reed Medical Center which was a founding factor of the Wounded Warrior Project.  His experience as a combat medic provided service in other units with the opportunity to serve and protect our country in 3 tours in Iraq.

Brad’s most recent assignment made him a part of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade, also known as the “Sky Soldiers”, stationed in Vicenza, Italy.

Throughout his life and career Brad enjoyed many adventures with his family and friends.  Whether it was a cookout with friends, bartending a friend’s party, trips to the beach, cliff jumping, traveling to new places, snowboarding, or scuba diving, he did everything with enthusiasm and a smile.  He was outgoing, compassionate, and a reliable friend to those that knew him.  His blue eyes and contagious smile made those around him always feel happy and content.  Brad’s quiet demeanor was not in comparison to his sarcastic humor that filled the room with laughter once he got to know you.

Brad was a loving son, father, husband, brother, son-in-law, and brother-in-law.  He will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.  He leaves to cherish his memory wife, Monica Owensby (Martinez); daughter, Chelsea; beloved cat, Chulo; parents, John and Gayle Owensby of Globe; sisters, Darla (Curtis) Stacy of Kearny, Jodie (Clell) Bushnell of Kearny, and Kimberly (Will) Dunn of Maricopa; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, our family has asked that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Honor of Sergeant First Class John Bradley Owensby.

Services were held Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at the Ray High School Auditorium in Kearny, Arizona.  Interment was at the National Memorial Cemetery 23029 N. Cave Creek Road Phoenix, Arizona. A reception followed at Dobson Ranch La Casita Recreation Center 2719 S. Reyes  Mesa, Arizona.
