Aliyana Perez and Frankie Valencia

On March 7, 2017, Hayden-Winkelman Unified School District had 50 students combined from Hayden High School and Leonor Hambly K-8 compete in multiple categories at the Gila County Science Fair in Miami. Two categories had first place wins, sending them to compete in the State Science Fair of Arizona.

The 1st place winners are Aliyana Perez and Frankie Valencia whose category is Energy-Chemical with their project ElectroMagnet. When asked why they chose to conduct this experiment, they stated they were interested in how to create an electric magnetic field.

Sena Acuna, Marianna Chavez and Jacob Sanchez

Next group of winners are Sena Acuna, Marianna Chavez and Jacob Sanchez whose category is Engineering Mechanics with their project DIY Hover Board. When asked why they chose to conduct this experiment, they stated that hover boards are popular and they wanted to create one that was cheaper.

Mr. Deere, the Science Teacher, stated that he is proud of this group of kids and the amount of work they put in to their projects. In the 4 years that HWUSD has been participating in the Science Fairs ranging from District to County, we have had numerous projects get ribbons but this is the first time that we have had any of our students win 1st place at County. Nothing can be said about how amazing it feels to know you have made it to County Science Fair but now knowing that we have students representing our school at a state level is truly outstanding.

This group of kids were not the only students who represented Hayden at the County Science Fair. Here is the list of students whose projects also took home a ribbon.
