The No. 9-ranked Hayden football avenged a 56 – 42 loss to No. 8 Ft. Thomas just two weeks ago by defeating the Apaches when it mattered most in last Friday’s first round playoff game, 30 – 20.
The Lobos took advantage of seven turnovers and ran over and through the Apaches’ defense on the way to victory. Running back Joel Rodriguez did the most damage for the Lobos, rushing for four touchdowns in the game.
“We played well,” Hayden head coach John Estrada told the Copper Basin News. “We beat a tough team and I was very proud of our performance.”
The Lobos’ win sets up a matchup versus top-ranked Mogollon this Saturday.
“Mogollon is No. 1 for a reason.” Estrada said. “We’ll need to play our best game of the season.”
