Tank House team won the Asarco Toys for Tots Softball Tournament.

Last week, a group of Asarco employees got together for the second time this holiday season to help out the local community. But they did it by having a lot of fun.

Early in November, Asarco employee Enrique Lopez thought it would be a great idea to have a softball tournament and collect food as the entry fee. Other employees agreed and the first tournament was planned for Nov. 16.

Four teams signed up and the group collected more than 400 cans of food and non-perishable food items for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank.

Seeing the success of this event, the group decided to have a similar tournament on Dec. 16 only this time they would collect Christmas toys for the local toy drive.

Guess what? They did it again.

Last week’s softball tournament collected more than 50 gifts for the local community.

Tank House won the four-team tournament, but the children receiving the gifts are the real winners.

Thank you, softball enthusiasts. You show us all your Christmas spirit.
