The annual CV Foundation Art and Wine Auction, “The Stars and Lights of Paris,” will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Gila County Fairgrounds. The evening will feature many talented local artists, fine wine, finger foods, and a silent and live auction. The night will also take you to a star filled evening on the streets of Paris. Wanda Mitchell-Tucker’s painting, “A Dance in Paris,” will go to the highest bidder during the live auction.
“This painting was a little different type of subject than my usual, but it was fun to do,” states Wanda Mitchell-Tucker of the theme painting she created and donated to the CV Foundation Art and Wine Auction. “It was fun to do a whimsical scene of a couple dancing on the streets of Paris.”
Teaching the art has also been a large part of Wanda Tucker’s life. Since 1975, with the exception of six years, she taught for Central Arizona College (CAC). During her six year absence from CAC, Wanda taught and was the off-campus coordinator for Northern Nevada Community College. She also teaches once a week at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts (CVCA) and two day classes in Tubac. Her paintings can be seen at the Gila County courthouse, CVCA, United Jewelry; in Kearny at the Bank of the West, Marie’s Tortilla Factory and Deli; and in Old Town Tubac at Beads of Tubac. Wanda also has a gallery in Winkelman where her paintings can be seen by appointment, 520-356-7626.
“Painting is something I’ve always loved and was encouraged to do throughout my life,” Wanda speaks about her life-long passion with her dad as her biggest supporter. “He purchased a set of oil paints and brushes and told me, ‘Now you do something with this.’ I am so blessed for my dad to have lived long enough to see my success.”
