Noted Oracle author/historian Catherine H. Ellis will be speaking at the Acadia Ranch Museum in Oracle on Friday Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
Ellis has written numerous historical books on Arizona history including Oracle and the San Pedro Valley, Holbrook and the Petrified Forest, The White Mountains of Apache County and Snowflake.
The speaking event is part of the Oracle Historical Society’s way of celebrating Arizona’s Centennial.
Ellis will be speaking about the history of the Bingham family, the Latter-day Saint community of Binghamton and its influence in Tucson and the San Pedro Valley.
In the early 1900s many members of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints from St. David, Douglas, theGilaValleyand colonies inMexicosettled along theRillitoRiverand establishedBinghamton.
Members of the Bingham family have been a significant part of Redington and Binghamton for over 100 years. There will also be a display of historical photographs of Redington andBinghamtonselected by Catherine and some photos taken by Oracle artist Christopher Lucic of the historicBinghamtoncemetery.
The cemetery was established by the Bingham family when they had to find a spot to bury their good friend John Harris. There is no charge for the presentation and refreshments will be served.
