The Miners girls’ basketball team is ranked fifth according to the most recent rankings at AIA365.com. Senior Angelica Zuniga is the second-leading scorer and rebounder in Division IV, according to the website.
The Miners won seven straight games heading into the holiday break. Zuniga, who plays center for the Miners, is averaging a double-double per game – 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Zuniga is not the only Miners’ player among the state’s leaderboard. Senior Analisa Robles and junior Kadi Monfred are ranked 13th and 16th, respectively, in assists. Robles is 15th in rebounds as well.
The Miners are holding opposing teams to an average of 29 points per game while scoring an average of 41 points per game. Their record is 9 – 3 on the season.
They’ll return to action with two games on January 3, 2014. Their first game is against Coolidge at 8:00 a.m. before traveling to Hayden for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff.
