The Arizona Department of Transportation has been working for more than 40 years to improve US 60 between Interstate 10 in Tempe and Superior. The most recent project, completed in 2008, extended the divided highway from Florence Junction through Gonzales Pass to Queen Creek, near the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
This $32.8 million project will continue the improvement of US 60 from Queen Creek through Superior to the junction of State Route 177. The divided highway will be extended to the western boundary of Superior at approximately Silver King Road, and the roadway will be improved through Superior.
Beginning the week of March 14, crews will be increasing their activities along US 60 at Superior in preparation for the construction project.
Work will start on the west side of the project by the Boyce Thompson Arboretum where crews will start constructing the new two-lane divided highway to match the current divided highway. The new divided highway will be constructed north of the current highway and will tie back into the current highway close to the Superior airport.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
